Yes.

You may enroll in Gateway’s online professional training without participating in the Washington, DC internship program. The training stands on its own as a complete career-readiness experience.

No program can legally guarantee an internship.

What Gateway guarantees is active placement support and a high probability of receiving at least one internship offer that aligns with your interests and meets your university’s requirements.

No.

You can participate regardless of whether your institution grants academic credit.

If needed, Gateway can coordinate with your university to identify the best academic arrangement..

No.

Credit is optional. Gateway offers an official certificate documenting successful completion of a Professional Training Program – equivalent to a 3-credit upper-level undergraduate or introductory graduate seminar.

In most cases, yes – provided you are legally eligible to work in the United States.
Gateway works with Cultural Vistas, the U.S. Department of State–designated sponsor for J-1 internships.

  • Be enrolled in a degree or certificate program outside the U.S., or have graduated within the past 12 months
  • If graduated more than one year ago: have at least 5 years of professional experience
  • Commit to returning to your home institution if still enrolled
  • Demonstrate adequate financial resources for your full stay
  • Demonstrate sufficient English proficiency
  • Participate primarily for the educational internship experience—not employment
Approved participants may intern in Washington, DC for up to 6 months.
No.

Participants must follow all rules associated with the J-1 visa issued through Cultural Vistas, including timely departure at the program’s end.
Yes.

Gateway participants may independently apply for short-term or non-degree study at local DC universities while completing their internship.
Gateway does not provide scholarships.

However, participants can earn program fee credits by referring individuals or groups who enroll and complete a Gateway program.
